Research Notesĭisambiguation This Thomas is contemporary with Thomas Charlton but they are separate families. In 1419, Thomas granted land in Shropshire to William Knightley and his wife, Elizabeth. Robert, Esq., who married Mary Corbet and had one son.Thomas married Cecily Fraunceys, daughter of Robert Fraunceys, Knt., and his wife, Isabel, daughter of Thomas Brumpton, Knt. In 1399, Thomas was co-heir to his uncle, Thomas de Cherleton and was sole heir to his aunt, Ellen de Cherleton, in 1413. Thomas was given his mother's surname, but may also be known as Thomas Charlton alias Knightley. Thomas Charlton (or Cherleton), of Apley, Shropshire, son and heir of William de Knightley and Anne de Cherleton, daughter of Thomas de Cherleton, was born about 30 March 1394 (aged 22 in 1416).
